Nankhitai!

Her hair’s a bit dodge, but super cute nonetheless. Who needs stick-figure Janet & John when you can have mini-me Madhuri & Manmeet on your wedding cake?
Happy Diwali!

Here comes the bride! Shabana walking down the aisle, looking radiant and lovely :)
*wells up*
Last year we had The Imo, this year we have The Imaan. Dance pe Chance baby dance-off. Love the little congo-line they almost started! It aint a wedding party until there’s been a congo line!
Dance pe Chance: Baby Sabreen’s head-banging moves. Cutesy!
The crowd was big, the singers were great, the dancers were enthusiastic (but shy). Baby head-bangers stole the show. Didn’t get many pics of the party party, but this is what went down at Aarzoo Villa on Saturday:

Backstage (i.e. Waj’s bedroom): Little girl dancers all a-flutter with excitement and nervousness, getting sparkled up. “What if we forget the moves?”

Like sardines in a tin, the crowd squished together in the garage, all ready to shout encouragements and wolf-whistle, Indian style.

Walking out for their big debut…

Aaaaannddd…. Shake it! Cos nobody got a body like Sheila (or something like that, I don’t know the words).
Wedding pics up next!

Will the jol tonight be as legendary as the Night Imo Stepped Out? Will reluctant foot-tapping aunties be dragged into the centre of the Circle of Madness and be forced to dance? Daaaammmmn I hope so! Let the good times roll!

Some pics from the ‘formal engagement’ (they’ve been engaged for a few months, but somehow it’s not official unless you’ve fed at least 300 people and had a gazillion duas recited for you ;P).

This is the easiest, most foolproof meringue recipe you will find. It’s from cookbook.co.za, lovely site if you’re looking for ‘easy but impressive’ kitchen feats.
Ingredients:
Heat the oven to 140 C.
Beat the egg whites on low, until they become frothy. Then turn up the speed and keep beating until it looks like a fluffy cloud (or that ghost from Ghostbusters). If you remove the beater and soft peaks form, then you’re ready for the sugar.

Add the sugar, 1/4 cup at a time, and keep beating on high speed, until the mixture becomes glossy and thick.

(Side note: If you don’t have castor sugar, you can make your own by grinding normal sugar to a finer consistency.)
From here you can either make blobs, hollow baskets (nifty for adding fruit to later) or use a piping bag to make shapes. Either way, lay out your meringues on a greased and lined baking tray.

Bake for 40 minutes and then turn the oven off and leave till it cools down. I usually do this overnight.
Isn’t that pretty?

Now just add some whipped cream and fruit, or ice cream, or even strawberry yoghurt, and you’re good to go.

Perfect for your iftaar treat :)
